Batton Batton Mein began as a simple reading circle inspired by my childhood book club, Chatter Matter, where I first discovered the joy of stories and open dialogue. What started as a small group of ten Grade 5 learners in a Delhi government school soon evolved into a weekly, activity-based literacy program reaching over forty students in Grades 4–5 from under-resourced classrooms. Collaborating with the school’s academic coordinator, I designed customized lesson plans aligned with India’s Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Framework, weaving storytelling and discussion to enhance comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence. Through this, I witnessed how a single classroom can embody a vast spectrum of learning needs, regardless of being categorized into one level. While enthusiasm was abundant, the lack of differentiated content revealed a recurring challenge for teachers, one that continues to drive my commitment to building adaptive, equitable learning solutions that empower educators and nurture every child’s potential to read, imagine, and thrive.
Driven by the belief that equitable learning begins with access, I developed iLesson, an AI-powered web application that generates adaptive English teaching resources for multilevel learners in under-resourced, single-teacher classrooms. Using JavaScript and Large Language Models (LLMs), I built a data-driven system that personalizes lesson content aligned with India’s Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Framework, simplifying lesson planning while strengthening comprehension and engagement for students in Grades 2–5. To address the gap in differentiated instruction, I conceptualised, coded, and piloted iLesson across 10+ foundations and partner schools, including Raksha Foundation (Mumbai) and institutions supported by The Education Alliance (TEA). During live teacher training sessions, iLesson’s adaptive lesson-plan generator received strong validation for its scalability, ease of use, and zero-cost accessibility, aligning closely with our mission of bridging innovation and equality. Currently, I am in conversation with organisations across India and am conducting live demonstrations with educators to integrate iLesson into their teaching ecosystems. For my work done, I have received an Innovator Award (for exemplifying ingenious thinking in developing solutions to create positive impact). As I take this initiative forward, I’m deeply excited to continue expanding its reach and transform the education landscape of India, one classroom at a time!
